Help!

I am away from the boat… and need a measurement.

The length and diagonal length of a 26 C lazarette.

Thor,

If you don’t get a better answer from someone who’s in a position to measure, you may be able to figure it out from the attached design drawing.

Sorry I can’t be more help – I’m an Ultra kind of guy these days.

Thor, how soon do you need the numbers? I will be at the boat on Saturday. Are you referring to the propane locker or the two cockpit lockers? Are looking for the measurements of the opening? Do you want imperial or metric measurements?

Mark Powers

We away till mid week next week and I was going to buy something on line…the voice of reason spoke and asked if it would fit in the lazarette… I think 24 on the long side and maybe 28 on th diagonal…

Measured today. Both stern lockers the same size.
20 1/4” x 13”. Diagonal measured 24”. A Magma party size kettle barbecue with attachments will just squeeze in if it is turned the correct way. Mark Powers will also fit in if turned the correct way.

Ernie, upside down is not the correct way.

The trick going in is to face amidships, lower one leg in, then the other, then descend while imitating a pretzel.

The trick coming out is to get back into the entry position, hook one hand onto the cockpit seat, lever yourself up until you can get the other hand out, then use arms and legs to push up.

It’s good for your health. If you’re not strong enough and slim enough when you first try going in, you will be by the time you get back out.

Mark is correct. Upside down will not work. Trust me, I know. I’ve tested it.

I dunno …

I am short (5’6") and have had the best of luck both going AND coming out of there upside down. Then again, I owned a smaller boat (an NS22 O/B) and would descend (upside down) into a veritable unfinished basement (as I had NO engine down there), just stuff.

Schubert, it appears, was a proponent of heading down RIGHT SIDE UP. That’s musicians for ya.

I always take my cell phone with me when I go to the “engine room” on my 26 classic. It’s just in case I get stuck. Haven’t been stuck yet, but at 6’1” I want to be careful!
