Hudson River Gybe video ??

Hello all -

Exactly where would I find this video of a Hudson River Gybe ?? On the INA site ?? If so, where ?

The only HRG video that i have found is one of a large older sailing vessel executing a gybe on, I think, the Hudson River.

I would love to see an actual video of this manoeuvre taking place.

Thanks !!

Ernie,
On the INA site, go to Members then select Sailing a Nonsuch and the video link is right there.

Thanks, Jim.

Got it. Now, my only worry would be that sheet snagging on some of the goodies that I have mounted on the stern rail.

We shall see about this.

Ernie,
Yeah, that’s a concern but you can help mitigate any problems in two ways. First, turn more on your first turn. When the sail comes over it will be depowered sooner leaving more slack in the main sheet (which prevents a snag from doing damage). Second, you can do what I often do which is to have the autopilot do the initial turn. That frees you up to face the stern and “whip” or guide the sheet over any potential snags.

Practice in light air first. It’s really effective once you get used to it.
