I’m doing lifelines shortly as well, Peter. May I ask the final cost? I like the idea of the Suncor Quick Attach system.

The Lifeline wires were each 30’ in length, I bought 4 of them.
These lines were the 3/16th inch 7x7 rope wire coated with white vinyl for an OD of 5/16th inch. My original lower lifelines had a smaller OD, but this wasn’t available to work with the Quick Attach hardware so I ‘simplified’ and went with the same size for all 4 lifelines. Adding grommets to the lower stanchion holes, to protect the new lifelines from the somewhat raw edges of these holes, slowed me down a bit, but the grommet cost was very little.

So total for the parts and lifelines $886.12 US, plus shipping and tax… roughly $950US.

I will be posting videos and pictures of the installation, hopefully within the next few days.

Thanks, Peter. That’s a good amount of savings over having it done by someone else up here based on the one and only estimate I got before we all started staying put. The exchange rate is horrible right now, so I’ll still be into it for nearly $1500 CAD all in. Or - 1.5 boat units as my loving spouse likes to tease. Jerk. LOL But I may save enough to buy a coveted used Sailrite machine to repair my own canvas and sew a stack pack, binnacle cover, etc etc, so there’s that. Paul Miller and I were saying yesterday that Coronavirus is going to be having a lot of boats looking spiffy this year.

Will the Suncor white coated SS wire fit on a N26?

Hi Bob,
I am not sure if the 26s used the same stanchion posts as the 30s… I would guess yes, but that is just a guess.
Again, the OD of the coated wire-rope is 5/16th inch…
Not sure if you have availability to your boat at the moment but I would measure before ordering if possible.

It passed through both the upper and lower holes on my stanchion posts (original posts). Top (1/2" diameter opening) - plenty of clearance. Bottom (maybe 3/8" opening, maybe 7/16ths) - with no grommets, the coated line passed through, with the nylon/rubber grommets I used (3/8" OD, 1/4" ID - I cut the grommet so it would open (spread) more into the hole) it was a very tight squeeze. I learned to shave the end of the coating down to almost the wire, I was then able to feed the coated wire-rope through the grommet while holding the grommet in place with my fingers. The difficult grommet was the exit (aft side of the stanchions) as it would try to pull out with the force of the wire pushing it… the entrance side (bow side) was much easier.

Hello All!

I managed to edit a bit and upload the videos of the Suncor Quick Attach Lifeline system as I installed them on my 30U.

  • there are 8 videos, each with a number 1 thru 8 (though they don’t show up exactly sequentially in the dropbox file) taking you through my process of installation, along with a few tips on how to make it easier.

  • Please note - I mention in the vids that 1 3/4" is the length of cover I was removing… it is really more like 1 7/8"…

  • There are a few pictures in the folder of the Port side completed installation.

  • Also, please also refer to the original Sailrite.com I posted of their installation of the Quick Attach System - it is much better than what I offer here… my goal was to provide some tips, particularly for the coated wire-rope, and possibly specific to our Nonsuches.

Hi All -

Jim Cosgrove pointed out that the #5 vid (grommets) was getting stuck at roughly the halfway point. Thank you Jim!
I’ve re-edited this video and re-posted it. It appears to be working properly now.
