I put a Watt Cycle battery in replacing my Trojan Golf carts battery bank that s now my start. bank.
Setting up the DC to DC charger and the battery monitor requied a good deal of reading of the manual. And today these are not 2 page affairs. ANd they entail such topics as “tail current” for example. We are a long wat from just testin g Spg !
However to try to clairtfy the best setting proticol and reconcile battery BMS’s settings with Victron I must say WattCycle the battery manufacturer has been excemplorary in responding to questions in a prompt manner. Witness the follwoing exchange,
Hello Thor,
Thank you for your message. Here are the **recommended Victron monitor settings** for your **WattCycle 12V 314Ah Mini LiFePO4 battery**:
| Setting | Recommended Value | Notes |
| **Peukert exponent** | **1.05** | Standard and best for LiFePO4. No need to change. |
| **Charge efficiency** | **99%** | Perfect — you already have this. |
| **Discharge floor** | **20%** | Excellent choice for long battery life. |
| **Tail current** | **3%** → **9.4 A** | **Best setting** for this 314Ah battery |
| **Charged voltage** | **14.4 V – 14.6 V** | Most accurate for full charge detection |
| **Charge detection time**| 3 minutes | Standard value |
# Why Tail Current = 3% (9.4 A)?
- Your 314Ah battery finishes charging when the current drops to roughly 3% of its capacity.
- Setting it at **3% (9.4 A)** gives the most accurate “100% SOC” reading on the Victron.
- If you notice the Victron reaches 100% a little early or late, you can adjust slightly to 2.5% (≈8 A) or 4% (≈12.5 A).
