Looking for advice regarding replacing my still functioning but old data marine instruments.
don’t want to go with wireless wind since I’ve heard not so good things about performance.
I’m currently considering this package as we are hauled out with the mast down:

I’m interested to hear thoughts on the subject as well.

Beware of buying anything Raymarine if you plan on interfacing it with another product by different vendor.

Here is Defender’s offer. $1035 plus freight.
Ok, thanks for the caution.
I currenty have a raymarine autopilot and thought that’s a reason to stick with the brand.
I have an old eagle chartplotter today that is my speed and depth indicator. I was thinking i would retire it and go with these big gauges for speed and depth and probably use an ipad mini with iNavx for chart purposes. I don’t have a windpack today (not even really sure if i need one) but figured since the mast is down it’s the right time to upgrade.

I installed TackTick (now Raymarine) on MagnifiCat 10 years ago. Easy to install and no problems. Had them serviced by Raymarine two years ago after the wind guage quit. Service was quick and almost cheap. I regard this as one of my better investments and wouldn’t switch back to the old technology.

I’m considering the same package as Will, the i50&i60 Raymarine “Value Pack”. My Data Marine masthead unit just broke in half and the speed transducer has never worked since I’ve had the boat so it is time. If you are in the Raymarine program it is a very good deal vs. buying the units individually. I have an Axiom 9 MFD and a Raymarine Autopilot so these should fit right into the family. Too bad they don’t have a Tack Tick option but it seems that they don’t.
If the builder cut the Data Marine holes the size called out in the Data Marine installation guide, the i50 and i60 displays will … just …
cover the old holes. Because the new ones are square with corner fastenings they will be easy to install but they will only just cover the old round hole (or the blank you fill it with.)

We have a 15 year old Raymarine autopilot and two seasons ago, added a Raymarine Axiom 9 MFD, a triducer, and AIS. The autopilot was supposed to interface with the MFD, but has never done such. If your autopilot is newer, you may be more fortunate. We have a lot of trouble with the speed thru the water feature of the triducer - it never seems accurate.
FYI - I love the AIS, cheaper/easier than radar, lets you see the big boys around the corner before they run you over. I sail in the Long Island Sound and a few times have been surprised by a barge coming out of the East River at speed, with little in the way of room to avoid getting run over. AIS lets me know who is coming that has the right of way over me. Also helps greatly in timing ferries coming and going in Port Jefferson on Long Island Sound - a fairly narrow channel and the owner (aka the wife) does not want to be in the channel when the ferry arrives.
We too may be pulling out our Data Marine instruments (the speedo just fills the hole and the depth works intermittently) and putting in a i50 for the depth and the i60 wind instruments (which the boat has never had).

Raymarine, I’ve been told, does not support products beyond a certain age. So the great service they gave someone a few years ago may not be the same if you need those same instruments serviced now.
The Raymarine wireless instruments are nice, but I’ve had trouble getting them to interface with my Axiom MFD. Features that worked on my Raymarine autopilot on a previous boat do not work on the same device I installed less than three years ago on my Nonsuch. Not only that, even though their published manual explicitly describes the feature on page 66, Raymarine customer support tells me that it is not supported and there is no intention of supporting it.
I’ve had what’s now Raymarine on all my boats since 1984, but will be taking my business elsewhere for my next electronics system.
