NONSUCH 26 SAIL PRICE

I searched for this info but it seems that either my ability to search effectively is non existent or there is perhaps a reluctance to divulge this information. I am considering a NS 26 C purchase and the boat must have a new sail. If anyone has actually purchased a new NS 26 sail in the last 5 years could you give me the price and sailmaker information? Any advice on sail construction that you have would be nice too! Thanks in advance for all info!

My apologies for not noting my info on my post. I am Will Pierson currently Nonsuchless in Southern California or Jupiter Florida.

Hi Wilmer -

I recently got some quotes for a new sail for my 22 footer - sail size around 330 square feet. They all were in the $3000.00 range, give or take. The sail for a 26 is somewhat larger 420 - 465 square feet (racing).

Most of us do NOT go full battens all the way - we do the two top ones as FULL and the two bottom ones as partial (this also affects cost). Most of us have 2 sets of reef points. But here is a BIG one -

If you can be happy with a nice, new NON-LAMINATE Dacron sail (cruising, moderate racing) as opposed to a laminate, save big bucks and go that route. The biggest reason that I would replace my 5 oz. laminate sail is that I am stuck with a lot of ugly mildew that is sitting IN THE GLUE that holds the laminate together. It won’t “wash out”. I’m stuck with it. Sadly, it looks like crap. It’s a shame cuz the sail is in otherwise good shape.

My gut feeling is that a new sail sail will cost you around $4200.00 give or take.

Buy the boat - bargain hard cuz a new sail will cost you bucks. You’ll love the Nonsuch.

I obtained a sail from Ed Botterell of Doyle/Botterell in Toronto about 5 years ago, and I’ve been delighted with it. Ed’s very well known in the Nonsuch community, and has made as many, if not more, Nonsuch sails than anyone else.

Be sure to look him up!

Hello Wilmer
I have a Nonsuch 26 Ultra and was pricing new sails at the Toronto Boat Show last January. Doyle Sailmakers (Ed Botterell) was the original designer for the Nonsuch sail. Doyle Sails Detroit were at the show and quoting $4937 to $5358 CDN, add a stack-pack for $2687 or cover for $579. Tides track mast track was another $1176. All prices are from there price sheet. We I do get around to refitting sails I will choose Doyle. Good luck on your search
