Oil Pressure

Last fall I posted about a problem with my oil pressure with my Westerbeke 27A. It was intermittently dropping and setting off the alarm.

The engine was removed from the boat and the rod bearings were replaced by a very reputable service.

One source of the problem was asserted to be that the oil filter I was using had an oil bypass rating much higher than the Westerbeke filter. I was using a NAPA Gold 1334 that cross matched with the Westerbeke 36918. The specs on the NAPA valve is rated at 8-11lbs. I couldn’t find the rating for the Westerbeke.

The Napa 1334 is a rebranded WIX filter. 51334. I have been using them for years in my W21 8- 11 lbs is the rating, maybe you bad filter but definitely the right one. The valve opens when the filter median is clogged and there is a pressure differential inside the filter.,

8-11 lbs is common range.

I get my oil tested and if the filter was not doing its job it would have shown up in the analysis.
