Does anyone have original Merriman hardware in good condition for sale? I would like to keep everything original, but unless it was taken off years ago and stored away from the sun, it probably looks like mine! All the sheaves are dry and brittle. It’s a shame because the metal portion of these blocks is in mint condition.
Those sheaves can indeed be replaced, and (I hesitate to admit this…) I did it several years ago. Only someone who’s OCD with too much time on his hands should do it.
You have to grind off the heads of the ss rivets that hold the sides together, drive out the shafts, then reassemble with the proper (black) sheaves using exactly the right ss hex head cap screws and low profile nuts with lock washers.
Good to know others out there appreciate keeping things “stock.”
Val?: Note how most of us sign off. It gives us info as to name, boat name, what and where it is, ETC.
Also, if there is no thread to the conversation, we don't know what the last post was on the subject .

I replaced the sheaves as well until my supplier ran out. Then I started to make my own sheaves on my RP machine which I print solid so they are probably much stronger than the stock ones. I use standard SS bolts that are too long then saw and file off the excess and punch the end to lock it. They work just fine.
I replaced all the blocks on myNS36 rig last year with Shaefer group 7 blocks. They may be somewhat oversized, but they run smoother than smaller blocks. Definitely worth the extra expense.
