I think that must be a typo in Brian’s description of his boat. If Mawingo is hull #344 the boat is actually a 1986 model. FATE (30U) is hull #343 (so one before Brian’s), was started in August 1986 and is considered a 1986 model year boat. (Or, the typo is in the hull number…but something doesn’t match up.)

That makes more sense. The proof will be in the hull serial number cast into the transom. The date code is in it and should give the year and month.
