Propellor noise/turning while sailing

Chris
I see several responses already to your query about propeller shaft noise. My understanding is that it is much better to put the gear in reverse, which will stop the propellor from spinning, and a good reason to do this is that the gear box is not lubricated when the engine is not running, so it is easier on the gears to have the shaft stationary.

Hey Greg,
Good advice. I though that by stopping the prop from turning it
would be hard on the transmisson. But I see your point about it not
being lubricated. I'll have to try putting it into reverse. Thanks
again!
