Protecting the stem

When I bought Nonsuch it had a number of dings on the bow from anchor hits. No big surprise with a) a very vertical stem and b) boats that anchor often. I filled the blemishes and had a stainless protector made. It is 1/4” 316 stainless. It certainly could have been 3/16” or even 1/8”. I made a template from Bristol board and took it to a metal shop that advertised ‘no job too small’ We have anchored many times and no further damage. Since it is off-season for many boats - thought it would be a good time to post this.

Really nice!

Small design trivia note: Mark Ellis told me once that for esthetic reasons, he designed the bollard posts and the width of the top stem flat section to match for each model.

The very earliest boats had wood (oak?) Samson posts that are a bit larger than later metal ones.

Now that you mention it, Bruce, what Mark told me was in the context of discussing the castings and the verisimilitude of the Model Shipways 1:24 scale Nonsuch 30 model kit.
