There is some excellent advice from Ed Botterell in his several editions of Nonsuch thots by Botts. One of these documents is on the members INA page (Nonsuch Sail Trim 1992, see pg 1 and 5 for reefing info). I have an edition purchased from Ed, c 2006 which has some further info, including how to rig the luff reef lines: say you run the line from cockpit to mast on stbd: then run it through luff cringle on stbd, down to under first slide below that cringle on port, return to stbd side of sail, run to dead end on mast. I don’t see this 2006 document on the INA page but it would be a good addition.

Thanks to Greg’s nudge, I just put the full Botterell pamphlet on the www.Nonsuch.org website. Look for it on the MEMBERS tab under SAILING A NONSUCH - GUIDANCE.
We had the revised 2008 version, which seems to differ primarily in having updated witty disclaimers on the front page.
In addition to all the sailing tips on that GUIDANCE page, there’s also a useful section in the New Nonsuch Owners Quick Guide, found on the MEMBERS tab under MANUALS.
In re-reading Botts Thots, I was struck by a few lines in his introduction:
The problem for a newly minted sailor is who or what to believe…
You can read and listen and question, and this is good, and will help a lot.
But time on the water is the secret, because sailing confidently and well is
as much instinct and anticipation as it is knowledge and experience.

Thanks Bob,
This is all good stuff and worthwhile reading and rereading.
The quote you posted is especially relevant and rings true to me.
