Mark, You have come up with all the bright idea’s that I expected to steal from a technical guy like you. Fool someone else saying you’re not. You’re idea’s are noted and stored in the upper chamber. Overthinking the project will kill the fun, so loaded with plans, i’ll just get the materials and start cutting, getting the final idea’s as I go.
I’ve contacted Hamilton Marine to learn that they’d rather not ship international. Also, they do not accept creditcard or paypal payments. Makes it kinda hard to order from them. They are cheap though.
The profile that I found suitable and affordable is a fake teak profile from a company called “topdeck”
The Nonsuch is on a short holiday right now, to the blasting / spray paint booth. To be returned in about 10 days. Lead part of the keel will be grit blasted and epoxy treated. She’ll get a decent layer of preventive osmosis epoxy paint on her UW hull. Topsides will be RAL1013 white. Deck and cabin same color. The bootstripes, antiskid and trimming will be finished by me when she returns.
Obviously the green is just a primer. She’ll be close to the original colors when done.
You are providing a lot of us with one of the most entertaining, informative and endearing sagas to grace this forum in quite awhile. Since most of us cannot travel (for fun or profit) right now, these photos and the stories of how your project is faring are very, very welcome.
I can just imagine that big boat hauler grinding and snaking its way through those neat and compact Dutch streets. This boat is gonna look stunning when complete.
Keep the stories going and thanks !! Oh … before I forget, a while ago, there was a shot of you gritting your teeth while grinding some wet core out of the side of your boat … and you weren’t wearing safety glasses. My girlfriend noticed that one !! Shame, skipper … shame. (Contact lenses don’t count and you can’t buy them made of polycarbonate.)
That looks like a beautiful coil of FlexiTeek / Wilkes material.
I got a sample recently while looking into solutions for replacing my eyebrow. (Well, actually, my boat’s eyebrow.)
Couldn’t use FlexiTeek because of color matching issues with PlasTeek grabrails, but have to say it’s a very impressive product. When I figure out replacement eyebrows, I’ll start a separate thread posting about it.
Ready to go but they won’t be used until may 2021 because there’s less than one inch space between the Nonsuch and my neighbor boat.
They’re made out of 1 full sheet ply 1/2 inch thick. 14 pcs.
