Rudder post grease cup

On my N33 I have a grease cup which is screwed into the rudder post
just below the steering quadrants. Either the threads on the grease
cup or the threads in the rudder post are stripped so that now I
cannot tighten the cup onto the post, and therefore cannot insert
grease in the rudder post.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to address this problem?

I tried putting a 1/4 inch grease nipple in the rudder post hole, but
the grease nipple was a tiny bit too small... perhaps I am dealing
with metric sizes?

Thanks

I had the same problem on our N26C. The threads in the fiberglass had failed. I degrease everything with acetone, cleaned out the hole with a Dremmel tool, being careful not to go into the rudder shaft. I then glued in a regular grease nipple using an epoxy called J-B Weld. It works great and I think, should the nipple ever fail, it could be removed with a spanner.

Is it stuck, or does it turn without advancing?

If it turns, what does it look like when you take it off?

Hi

I replaced the grease cup with a barb fitting and a hose leading up
to the corner of the starboard locker. Zerk fitting there.
Note, preload the hose with grease before final assembly.
