I have the backwards W33 in my 30U and it comes with the attendant challenges with regard to impeller inspections / changes. My plan is to replace the six screws with six loctited-in SS studs. Then it should be much easier to locate the gasket and cover onto the pump body blind an with only one hand. I’m planning to use wing nuts if I can find them to secure the cover.
Has anyone tried this? Does anyone see a reason not to try it?
As an aside, I have found considerable evidence in the ship's papers to indicate that a previous owner purchased a speed seal for this engine but alas no sign of it is to be found. I would love to buy one but they are unfortunately no longer made.
An English company which advertises in sail magazine makes a cover for the impeller with gaskets and hand tighten knurled nuts. I think it may be quick seal. It is not expensive and makes chAnging the impeller easy.
