Switch with glow plug and starter

Hi Randy

If you are about to change out your ignition switch here’s a suggestion to consider. When mine failed a few years ago it left the starter motor running after the engine started, resulting in a lot of smoke, burnt wiring and a melted hunk of plastic on brass formerly known as the mains switch. Lots of labour and some expense (including a new starter motor) was required to renew the damage.

I replaced the key ignition with an on-off toggle switch in the same spot, and on a new adjacent panel under the stbd lazarette, two momentary contact switches (one for glow, one for start). This means I don’t need to fumble with keys anymore, and there is no chance the multi-purpose switch will cause another accident like my last one. Pics attached.

Cheers,

The starter switch on my 82 W13 is failing. It almost always requires
some fiddling before it will turn. Is there a suitable substitute
available?

Many thanks.

Hi Greg;
I would love to see the photos but they are too dark to see any details. Is it possible to take new photos with better lighting?

Thanks,

That is a novel idea. And, FWIW, Greg, the photos appear normal on my desktop computer.
