Is the transom on a 33 solid or cored?
Thanks,
Is the transom on a 33 solid or cored?
Thanks,
The transom is cored. When I had the swim platform installed, the holes for the mounting bolts were first filled with resin and then re-drilled so there would no risk to the core.

All Nonsuch past 22’ have a balsa wood core, hull and top deck.
The 26 is solid glass, hull and transom. The deck is cored.
I have a ‘88 30’ Nonsuch Ultra
Exactly what I need and why I needed it.
I hope to get a swim platform one of these days. I figured I could back in and install it at the dock if the transom was solid FRP. But with the coring I’ll have do it next time I need bottom paint.
Thanks!
The 36 transom is cored. At lest it was when they built no. 11.
Guys -
All NS 22s and NS 26s have solid fibreglass hulls. The decks, etc. (the TOP molds) are cored.
Of this, I am darn near certain. I believe that all other Nonsuches had cored hulls in addition to the decks, etc.

Our '87 NS30U has a partially cored transom. Higher up, where the davits are mounted, the transom is cored. Lower down, where the swim platform is mounted, is solid glass.

In newer boats, my impression is that best practice was generally considered to be that cored laminates should only be done above the waterline.
I don’t know whether that came in before or after Hinterhoeller’s time. Having only owned solid fiberglass hull 26’s, it’s only been an academic question for me.
