Please see item # 1622 posted by Greg Silver describing the method of
climbing the mast using rock climbing equipment. As a relative newbie, this
made sense to me so I bought the equipment and tried it. It works fine for
the average fairly fit 65-year-old (me). the advantages are that you don't
have to rely on somebody else to drag you up the mast, You can have somebody
belay you with a second halyard if you have one, the climbing harness is
much more secure than a bosun's chair, and you can stop to rest comfortably
if you need to. I have not needed to go to the top yet, but going high
enough to hang my wishbone was no problem.
