water heater vent

Group, this past weekend I removed the old leaky Paloma water heater and replacing it with an Excel, In the process I removed the vent hood and exposed a 3" opening in the head roof. The head has an existing vent cover for general air circulation (see atachments). On examination it looks to be home made? What have others done after paloma removal? Complication things is that the propane cabin heater was also vented thru the paloma exhaust vent. Thanks in advance

Hi Bob

I also replaced my waterheater with an Excel. Tho it’s a ventless unit I decided to use the old vent anyway. BTW we love the Excel. Works great and no pilot light. Good luck.
