Here is the final post for my handle insert problem. It is fixed with all systems operable including the electric motor lockout.
The first two pictures are with the handle locked in and the electric drive coupling disengaged from the winch.
The second two pictures show the handle removed and the drive coupling engaged for electric motor.
It works fine in both modes.
In retrospect the “correct” fix would have been to free the seized 5/16 dia. center shaft from the outer sleeve. That would have resulted in the handle popping out with enough force to send it to Davy Jones locker as Rob Cohen mentioned.
I’m glad I did what I did in removing 1/2” from the sleeve. I have lost enough stuff to Davy.
