Barient Main Halyard Winch clamp ring

Hi folks,

We’ve had a mishap when servicing our winches and i’m wondering if anyone has a part/spare winch they are interested in selling or can point me in the direction of a business who may have this part.

We still have the original Bariant winches and the once that broke is one of the bigger two speed self tailing winches that are on the main halyard and sheet. What i’m looking for is the clamp ring in (#8 in attached image) that serves as the top of the cleat mechanism.

The ring is cast and a chunk broke off when the winch was being re-seated. It’s not repairable so if we can’t find a replacement we’ll either try and mill a new one or just replace the winch in entirety.

Thanks in advance,

Will,

Let me second Kurt on arco-winches.com – they’re Australian so it’s some distance, but I’ve dealt with them and found them very responsive. I’ve actually gotten winch overhaul kits from them cheaper than anywhere I could find in the U.S. or Canada.

You don’t mention what model of Barient you have and I couldn’t tell from the picture. That’'ll potentially make a big difference.

If you end up deciding to buy a new one, there’s an equivalence chart at https://www.mauriprosailing.com/us/category/2-Barient.html that’s reasonably accurate. (Although, if prices aren’t daunting, you might want to size up from their recommendations.)

Thanks Kurt and Bob!

I believe the winches are the #23 model but will confirm when i’m next onboard. It looks like they have a set of self tailing jaws available for this model which sounds like what i need, fo r$85. Fingers crossed this is looking promising.

I sent them an email.

Thanks again for the connection.

One more for arco-winches.com. I bounced a spring overboard and they were there for me.

Thanks Kurt, Bob and Paul, it looks like they have the piece i need and and this will save an otherwise fully functional winch.

Just thought i’d share that the Aussie arco-winches.com company came through and saved our Main sheet winch, it was ~$200USD for the piece including shipping.

Thanks again for the advice!
