While changing slips at at my new home port my engine stalled twice. My idle speed is set at 500 rpm by the gauge. The question is ‘should I up it to 800rpm? And is that an easy thing to do for a mechanically minded man such as as myself?

That’s pretty low. Mine is set at about 800 rpm on my W27A. Before I had my engine mounts replaced it was lower, maybe 600 rpm. I haven’t adjusted it but I would shoot for 700.

I believe that 500 rpm is too low. The engine manual should spec what it should be. I suspect it’s more like 750 to 800 rpm.

This topic was discussed on the forum just a few months ago, although the question was about the thunk when putting it into gear. As I recall, the spec RPM in the manual is too high, like 1000 RPM. Mine is similar to Joe’s, around 650 - 750 as I recall.

Ok according to the response so far 750rpm seems to be the target. Part 2 in Bob Gehrmans part diagram seems reasonable as being the rpm range adjustment. Where do I look for that movement ? To know before I start looking will save me a lot of bending and stretching which is hard for me.

I should check the rpm with a digital tach first. Most tach’s are adjustable and often not reading correctly.

Mike has a good point… I just assumed you were not relying on the instrument panel tach. FYI, no need to buy a device- you can install an app on your phone for it. I have an Android phone, and use “TachoMeter” by Solution Piece. It is a basic tach, the app doesn’t ask for any extra permissions or collect data.
Brian - Follow the throttle cable. I think that’s where it terminates at Part #2 .
