Curious -- anyone know the story behind this Nonsuch 26 being sold for salvage?

Saw this and was wondering what the background was:

A Nonsuch 26 being sold by a salvage yard for much less than its pictures make it look worth.

Just curious.

Interesting to me is that my first impression of a Nonsuch was a 26 with this motor, thinking that even without the sail rig it would be a nice launch with an extended hardtop. A bargain for someone.

Well, obviously it’s not a gas engine It’s a steal for someone with a 26.

I think I remember seeing this boat on the market over a year ago as it has an odd oversized dodger. Although my memory plays tricks with me these days!

No way that dodger works… too high. As for the rest , it’s not an absolute auction, but there is no reserve which is contradictory.

caveat emptor

.

for starters, look at the price of replacing the mast, also you don’t know if this older boat has moisture damage in the core which can run into the tens of thousands

Hi Thor,

Having some experience with auctions it looks like there is a reserve. The notice says This is not an absolute auction. The minimum bid is not a reserve which indicates the reserve is more than the $500 minimum.

Still looks like it might be an opportunity to get a project boat or for parts depending on the highest bid and what the actual reserve amount is.

Wow. We looked at that boat in a yard in Wareham last year. Not sure the dodger wouldn’t work, as someone suggested. The sail had been cut to fit the dodger. And the owner said that for what he wanted the boat for it was fine. We decided a 26 Ultra didn’t have the layout for our wants and needs so didn’t go beyond an initial look. (Frankly we tend to be partial to the Classic layout of either size.) Now we have a 30 C and are hoping to have a canvas enclosure made for the cockpit.
