Extension on main salon berth slips off its pintle and gudgeon mounts

Hello All,

I have a NS 26U and the cushion and backer board that allow me to extend the berth, are constantly slipping off when in berth configuration. It also slips when it is stowed as the back of the salon seat but that is less of a concern. It’s the constant reattachment all night that drives me bonkers.

Has anyone had this issue and any suggestions on a solution? Tying the two does not seem to work and it is really difficult to access. I was considering the fabrication of some kind of C shaped metal tab that could drop down over the mated pintle and gudgeon to keep them engaged…

Thank you in advance for any help on this matter.

I have a hook on the backer board which hooks into an eye on the wood edge under the main cushion. With this arrangement the back cushion has always stayed in place. I could send you a photo.

Here are photos of the back cushion hook arrangement. When it is upright, the back cushion is held in the gudgeons by the wedge cushion and by the friction on the bottom cushion. At first I found it difficult to slip the cushion pintles into the top gudgeons as both pintles had to be lined with their gudgeons before they would slip in. So I cut about 3/16" off the aft pintle. This allows me to first insert the forward pintle into its gudgeon and then line up the aft pintle and insert it.

Fantastic. Thanks for the suggestion. I have to see whether I have that teak trim piece on the back of the seat riser. If so, I am set.
