We’re planning to attend the 2026 Rendezvous aboard Loon. Who has recommendations for where we can stay? We prefer a mooring to a slip. Are there anchorages nearby?
Also, I’m happy to sail from Noank to Greenport with another boat/boats since Nonsuch sailing is still new to me/us.
If you can hang on just a bit longer, I know the Rendezvous committee is getting ready to announce how to sign up for slips at the site of the Rendezvous. It should be posted here fairly soon.
For that answer, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for someone on the organizing committee to respond. I’m only close enough to it to know what the approximate schedule for announcements is, but not close enough to know the details of the arrangements.
The closest mooring I am aware of are at Shelter Island Yacht Club.
If you go that route, it is across the water separating Greenport from Shelter Island. You will need to ride their launch, walk 5 minutes to the ferry, transit on the ferry and walk a minute or two from the ferry to the event site. Your boat will not be available for others Nonsuchers to enjoy.
Hi Richard,
I’m on the 2026 Rendezvous Committee, and am also relatively new to Nonsuch boats.
2026 will be our 3rd season with Soave. The Rendezvous is both exciting and a little overwhelming to a newbie.
Seeing the various iterations of itineraries, I believe slips at Greenport will be most convenient and offer the best social opportunities. With some forethought other options can also work.
Your idea of sailing to and from the event in the company of other Nonsuch boats has come up and is something I plan to facilitate ( no promises till we assess level of interest) after we begin accepting registrations.
I’m looking forward to the Rendezvous and the possibility of arriving in Greenport with a flotilla of Nonsuch boats.
At this point it would be great to identify some potential gathering locations along the way. Ideally they would have :
Site host to coordinate RSVPs with dockmaster.
Discounted or free docking and/or mooring fees.
Friendly local Nonsuch owners eager to assist visitors. Possibly host an informal evening gathering or organize transportation for shopping or dining.
Strategic location, not too far off the route to Greenport.
Located for relaxed daylight sails between gathering points.
We keep Soave at CPYC. After our 2026 board is installed I plan to propose we host some transient Nonsuch boats en route to Greenport for the 2026 Rendezvous. This location would be for boats from NYC and points west of Westport, CT.
Perhaps others will consider leveraging their local knowledge and contacts to establish gathering points in their home port.
