Installing new raw water pump 037431 on a Westerbeke 27

I’m installing a new raw pump (P/N 37431) to replace the original (P/N 24143) on a Westerbeke 27, and I’m having trouble getting the pump bolted back on because the 90 degree elbow fitting is hitting the engine case. I tried cranking down the elbow fitting down as tight as possible, but it still hits the engine case and doesn’t leave room to attach the hose.

If anyone has successfully installed this new pump on their 1984-1986 W-27 engine, please let me know how you got it on and connected the hoses.

My recollection is that I must have rotated the pump 90 degrees.

Hi Jim, here’s a pic of our installation. As Joe mentioned it needed to be rotated 90 degrees.

I did end up rotating the water pump assembly 90 degrees, and that worked. Removing the alternator made the pump installation easier.
