Little autumn projects

My Nonsuch is currently hauled out for winter storage. Sailing season is over for now, but I’m keeping busy with a few maintenance projects.

First up: the dreaded water tank replacement. I ordered new ones, made by a local plastics specialist, since I live too far away to take advantage of INA’s tank replacement program. They match the drawings I found on the INA website perfectly and they came out easily:

After two weeks ashore, parked under trees, I was shocked to find the side decks flooded. The drains were clogged with leaves. I fired up FreeCAD and the 3D printer, and a few hours later I had a fix. It hasn’t been tested yet, but I’m optimistic. Happy to share the sliced file if anyone’s interested.

Then there were the air scoops. The exterior still looked decent, but inside the original white paint was starting to show rust-colored stains. I stripped all the paint and gave them a fresh new look.

The to-do list is far from finished. If folks find this useful, I’ll keep posting updates. If not, I’ll quietly keep tinkering in the shed.

cheers! Mark

YES!

Please do keep posting, Mark.

A project I’m considering, based on a sketch I saw scanning through ancient INA Updates:

Small storage bins under the companionway steps. Can never have too much storage.

This was a design by Tony Clark appearing in the January 1981 Update (around the time I turned 31).

Looks good, Mark. Please share the 3D models of the drain filters.

Yes, please, Mark.

There was an article in the Winter 2024 INA Update on 3D Printing of Port Screens. I just re-posted it under MEMBERS TIPS & PROJECTS on the www.Nonsuch.org website.

It’d be nice to post one about the drain screens, too.

The drain caps have been tested and they work as intended, no more flooding!

I can’t share the manufacturing file (.mf) nor the FreeCad file (.FCStd) so anyone can print them, because this platform doesn’t allow those file types to be uploaded.

Perhaps the INA can help through their webpage? Bob?

Try uploading them again. Discourse has a list of allowed file types - it needed a little tweak.

For the future, we may want to consider indicating posts with CAD or 3D printer files with a searchable tag so that we can easily search and browse what other people have been doing…
