PHRF Rating NS 30 c

What is the PHRF rating for the NS 30 C stock boat . I have heard 140 to 180.

Joe

Joe: Go to the Chesapeake PHRF website. Each region of the US and other countries is different.

189 if a stock prop.

Joe,

All the Nonsuch 30’s rate 180 here in on Lake St Clair in the Detroit, MI area. We are a primarily light air venue with a short steep chop on the shallow lake. This is a fair rating up against the sloop rigged competition when racing JAM. I find if I stay close to them on the upwind legs I can get ahead on the downwind legs by being able to sail deeper and faster.

That is the same as in NC. If you have a fixed prop you gain 3 seconds. I believe that other areas such as Chesapeake Bay and NJ are around 175.

Joe

I believe the rating also depends on the keel with the shoal draft being a few seconds slower.

In NC PHRF, it doesn’t make a difference. Doesn’t make sense to me, though.

Joe

In Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association PHRF we get 6 seconds for shoal draft on 30s and 33s. My shoal draft 33 with feathering prop is rated 180. A standard draft 30 with fold/feather is 183.

I appreciate your response- where are you sailing from?
Best,

Joe Peters Xanadu 30c

We purchased Nonsuch 30U Hull #484, “Carpe Diem” in 2017 and sail from Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club.
We have been day sailing and cruising the Maine Coast but have an opportunity to race this weekend.
I have read all of your responses to Peter’s initial question and reviewed various Regional PHRF ratings.
Just to be clear, there is no difference between the Classic and Ultra, correct?
Only variables are Folding/Feathering vs Fixed prop and Shoal vs Standard draft?
There are no Nonsuch 30 PHRF Ratings in the Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association(GMORA) valid list.
I will try to use Ward’s ECSA PHRF for my rating.
Appreciate any responses.

Good morning

The PHRF rating set by New England PHRF for my 1981 30 C is 177. The type of propeller does not appear to make a difference.

I am on Lake Ontario, my PHRF rating is 161 on NS30c. I have to work my butt off to compete among club racers.

Eric: I would think that New England PHRF has a rating for you and that GMORA would use that as a reference to assign yours. The type of prop normally makes a difference, the draft should but not always.
Mine, here in NC, with a folding prop and shallow draft is 180.

Eric,

Curiosity question, triggered by a discussion in a different thread: is there a difference in PHRF ratings for Nonsuches with saildrives vs. those with prop shafts?

From what I have seen on Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association PHRF info and New England PHRF, the shaft drive and Saildrive boats have the same rating.

I don’t believe so, Bob. It’s really a prop thing.
