Replace a batten

We or the sail loft seem to have “misplaced” the lowest batten on the Classic 30 sail. The sail loft says it is quite expensive to make a batten, which seems odd to me, given that the internet seems to list lots of options, including just going to West Marine. I am looking for suggestions from you all.

Thanks.

Check Sail Rite. A five foot 1 inch batten runs about $20

Also sailmakers often have batten from old sails.

I have a 30U. I assume the battens are the same if not exactly length.
I think the next batten above called the lower middle is the same length on mine.
I have 5 battens. Either by bad luck or bad install on my part I have lost 2 in the last year.
North Sails in Annapolis replaced mine. I think the cost was about $40.00. Each.
Take out the next batten above and see if is a match. At least then you will know the length.

Ned,
I had to replace my middle-bottom batten on my 30U this year. Hard finding a replacing because that Nonsuch main sail is so big.
I finally found a good one at Defender.com https://www.defender.com/search.html?q=Bete-Fleming+Sail+Batten
Hope it works for you.

Thank you all.

Ned - I recommend calling some of the local used marine supply places to find a used batten of the same width. They can be cut on a regular saw and the edges sanded smooth. I replaced one for $5.

I like that idea a lot. Thanks.
