Well, after 16.3 hours and 93.4 miles logged SEA HORSE has returned to the Sassafras River where she first entered service in 1985. She has been on the Delaware River North of Phila. for the last 20 years.
It was an uneventful but educational trip down the Delaware. We passed close by BB-62 the New Jersey which was the most decorated Battle Ship of WWII. Now a museum on the NJ side of the river. Unfortunately, my video clip won’t upload.
Then we motored past the USS United States, which still holds the passenger ship speed record it set in 1952 for an Atlantic crossing. Unfortunately, it is a derelict still looking for someone to restore it.
Finally, we passed the CV-67 JF Kennedy the last conventionally powered carrier to be built. It is awaiting the ship breakers at the Phila. Navy Yard.
The radio was abuzz PAN-PAN with report of a jumper off the Delaware Memorial Bridge. They had called off the search except for a lone DNR boat by the time we got there. We did see a bridge inspector walking the upper cable. If you look at the pic, he is the “bump” between the 3rd & 4th stringer to the left of the main cable support.
We hit the C & D canal on the ebb (westbound) and set a 9 mph record on the GPS …who says Nonsuches are slow..
After overnighting at Summit North Marina (close enough to sleep at home) we had a calm trip down the bay and into home waters.
