Search for missing sailor called off

Hi there, I’ve been a silence participant of this forum for quite some time now. Reading and following your stories with great interest. It could be the right time to tell mine but I’m not sure yet.

Let me kick off by bringing some horrifying news first:

That looks like a N30 to me…

The boat is from the highland yacht club. We have some members from there.
Al, you heard anything?

Damn …

I heard about this late yesterday but didn’t know it was a Nonsuch.

Hello All

The boat, 80 year old owner and 1 crew member in the article (N30 #18 Zephyr) are safe. I met the owner and crew at Waupoos after they were towed in Friday-midday. Long story short they almost died. A series of misadventures ( lost anchor, rope around rudder, no power, no engine, no navigation).

The most harrowing part was when the boat bounced several times over False Duck Island Shoal off Point Traverse Prince Edward County.

Winds exceeded 40knots seas 4-5 metres.

Owner was badly injured trying to raise the anchor and shaken from the experience.

Boat was traveling from Toronto to Maitland on the St. Lawerence.

It’s amazing the boat didn’t break up on the shoal. The owner said she was lying sideways on the shoal and was lifted and pounded down with every wave. (Note three years ago another Nonsuch 30 was stuck on the shoal and we helped rescue it in in much kinder weather much kinder weather.)

See attached photo of the owner and boat safe and sound.

So glad to hear that owner and crew are safe. That would be a terrible experience to go through.

More evidence that our boats were very well built.

This must be a different event, the Nonsuch in the article was discovered 7 miles south of Whitby.

The photo is the article was copied from a June 25 SAR tweet and is the reported safe N30 Zephyr that had the problem.

The details in the article are from a June 26 SAR tweet and appear to be from an unrelated, different lost sailor search, 170 km to the west.

The reporter that put together this article made a mistake conflating the two as far as I can see. How she could do this is a mystery because the text with the Zephyr photo says it was towed to Waupoos 1 day earlier.
