Water Tank Material

What type of plastic are NS26 water tanks made from?

Polyethylene
High Density Polyethylene
or something else? I need to weld the broken spigots on to the tank.

Hi Randy - Did your tank come through the INA tank replacement program?

Randy,
according to my owner’s manual the the tank capacities page lists the water and holding tanks as polyethylene. The date of the document is December 1/9/81. It is a bit confusing since its shows Nonsuch 30 at the top of the page but at the bottom lists the Model as a Nonsuch 26. The capacities listed are those of a 26.

The Nonsuch replacement tanks are listed as polyethylene as well. If memory serves me correctly they are supplied by Ronco. Ronco’s page says it water tanks are polyethylene. None of the sources I hav found use the phrase “high density”.

Good morning Mark,

Thank you for letting me know that it appears the tanks are polyethylene. Both of the tanks are out of the boat, as well as the complete water system including the hot water tank, faucets and sinks. At the moment the boat is quite a mess and unfortunately it is too cold to accomplish much.

I will have a busy spring and clean water in the summer!

Randy

Poly and you can weld them, there was an article in Good Old Boat awhile ago on this very subject. As well you can by 2 part glue from 3M that works well.

Personally I fix small repairs on water, but a holding tank with a leak…failure is not a pretty sight.
