Access to seacocks

I’ve got a 1983 26C. I have difficulty contorting myself to reach the seacocks under the galley sink and the sink in the head. I have been using the end of a boat hook to open and close the seacocks, but it’s obviously not the best tool for the job. Any ideas?

Not great ideas but, fwiw, on my former 26C I added an opening panel on the side of the galley to improve access.

Depending on what else is in there, and how your levers are oriented, you might also be able to fasten an one side of angle bracket to the lever and attach a piece of wood to the other part of the “L” to make it comfortable to grip. Then you’d have something you could push/pull instead of having to twist.

If you’re like me, though, the problem might be just that it’s hard just to bend knees, back and arms enough to both stay in balance and actually reach in. One possibility might be to make a custom tool inspired by the boat hook. E.g., a shaft terminating in a “Y” or “U” shape that’s sized to fit the handles. Could make it by screwing together some wood pieces.

Like Bob, I added an access door on the side of the cabinet. I no longer need to get on my hands and knees to reach the handle on the seacock.
