With my impending retirement in '18, we hope to get a boat, probably a NS30C or 30U. I have plenty of sloop experience, but only long ago on a Nonsuch. We have chartered and borrowed various boats in various places over the years, but never a cat rig. Been passed by them. With no experience of what features, quirks and points to look for on a Nonsuch, we are looking for advice and, if someone in or around Toronto is generous enough, a look around the innards and workings of a Nonsuch. Reading, videos and forums can only get you so far.
I sure am no expert but I can give you my thoughts after just going through the process. In my opinion the Classic can sleep six and the Ultra can sleep five. In both cases those doubling up in a berth should be very much in love. Now, if you’re like me, I personally don’t care how many it sleeps as I do my sailing from the cockpit and I also like sleeping in the cockpit and that’s not even in the berth count. My suggestion is to find the best Nonsuch 30 you can for the money and go for it. Pay more attention to the engine, mast, sail and wishbone. Don’t get easily turned off or turned on about the boat you are looking at. Take the price of the boat and estimate the cost to get the boat the way you want it. That’ll be the true cost of the boat. You may find a crappy looking boat that could be made whole for a few thousand bucks or find a super looking boat that needs a new engine or sail or maybe both. Also figure in how handy you are or you are not. That can save you big bucks. For a quick look, take a peek at the cabin sole and the next inch up on vertical wood as there is much that can be told right there about boat condition and care. Also a peek in the bilge may be a rewarding or not so rewarding view.

Thanks for the reply. From this and other digging, it seems that the Classic and Ultra are quite similar other than the obvious. I did see where someone had extended the V-ish berth with a board to make it more harmonious to the marriage.
