Insulating The Refrigerator (Follow Up)

Hi,

Sorry I was replying to several of the excellent suggestions and I mistakenly thought everyone was getting Those comments.

Summarizing to fix this oversight.

Thanks for the lead to pages in the New Owners Guide.
That was Very reveling. I had a question. Was there a single line of holes or some type of grid. Some you tube searching suggested a grid. Pete Farley sent a detailed description of how he did the job. It included using a snake camera attachment for his phone. He was able to view all around the box thru 3/8 holes drilled thru box. He used these holes for the application also. These holes were later plugged with a simple plastic plug like the ones on our head liners. It was the last nail I needed.

This is the Response I sent Pete and thought everyone would get it

to Peter

Thanks Pete,

The camera and plugs are on my list.
As to the refrigeration
The unit that came is air cooled and in Lazzerett
Southpaw seems to originally have used the engine driven cold plate system.
That would have worked for me.
If I would have changed it it would have been water cooled.
But
As it stands My Generator and battery bank are undersized for demands that must be met.
I have already installed a 120V 30A Lifpo golf cart charger for use at the dock.
But even if I took my 1000 Watt Honda I could not keep up on 90df days.
Your camera found data reinforces my resolve to add foam
I was toying with the idea of lining the inside with Vacuum panels.
Expensive, Lots of fussy work, and it would look a mess when done.
I still might glue a couple inside to the top.

Your revelation that the cover has NO INSULATION was astounding.

Thanks Again,

Project outline as of now"

  1. Get camera and Look about
  2. Get some acrylic panels and assemble with spacers.
This will allow me to test Flow/Set properties
  3. Plan/Drill my hole/grid pattern using data derived from step 2
  4. Close any foam escape passages
  5. Brace up interior in ways suggested by step 2 results
  6. Spray in waterproof closed cell foam
  7. Plug holes with “Pete” plugs
  8. Remove box under the lid
    Add 3" teak spacer ring
    Fill with foam and reassemble
  9. Stick vacuum panel(s) to underside of top
  10. Regasket lid
  11. GO SAILING

Thanks to everyone,
