Good morning ,
Do you have specific plans for the mainsail? size, number of slats, recommended fabrics for traveling, budget in Canada because here in France I am currently close to €10,000.
Do you have any plans for the lazy bag?
Thanks in advance
I’m having a new sail built by a local loft in Los Angeles, but talked to Doug Burtner at Quantum (dburtner @ quantumsails.com), Travis Blaine at Mack (Travis @ MackSails.com), and James Brown at Precision (jamesbrown @ precisionsailloft.com) before making my choice.
Paul Miller, for whom I have a great deal of respect, has also recommended Far East Sails (https://www.fareastsails.com/).
All four outfits have experience building Nonsuch sails and satisfied Nonsuch customers. If you are going to work remotely with a sailmaker, these would be very reasonable folks to work with. They can all send you materials that enable you to make your decisions on design and construction that work for your budget. All four are well-accustomed to building sails for folks at a distance and shipping the sails for installation.
I didn’t go with them only because there was someone local who I trust based on them having built a Nonsuch sail for a friend, and I wanted to take advantage of having on-site assistance.
4 years ago, I got quoted 2580 USD for a mainsail for my 36 by Leesails. I did not contacted a dealer but e-mailed Hong-Kong directly.
