Hello, just saw this photo of San Francisco bay posted on Facebook. See the boat in the background… What is it?
Thanks

I asked a sailing friend who’s a longtime San Francisco Bay racer about the picture. Here’s what he said:
…a long standing problem has been silting up the channel leading to the SF marina where the Golden Gate YC and the St Francis YC docks are. This year it has gotten so bad that both clubs have had to cancel regattas. Various agencies of the SF city government have pointed fingers at each other, and have claimed that the other agency is responsible for dredging. Apparently now there is a contract to dredge, and it has started, but nobody seems to know how long it will take. If I were paying the exorbitant slip fees to keep my boat there and I couldn’t get out to sail, I would be major pissed off.
We have a similar silting problem here in Marina del Rey, which claims to be the world’s largest man-made small boat harbor. Our solution, nearly 75 years ago, was for the local Congressman to slip a rider into a transportation bill requiring the Coast Guard to keep a vessel here in case a plane at L.A. International Airport went down in the water.
Except as a fictional event in a tv show a few years ago, no planes have gone down in those 75 years. But it makes the feds responsible for dredging enough for a small CG cutter to get in and out, which is good enough for most boats here.

it is interesting to look over the photos used for the sale of the boat and then read the copy. Suspect it was written by AI or at minimum, someone who does not know squat about boats. The reefer is referred to as a “storage compartment”, the chart table reduced to just a “wooden table”, the engine compartment “showcasing mechanicals and belts”. Kind of weird.
Also interesting to see the fire extinguishers on the boat - three of them, all right next to each other. I have three on our 30U, but they are spread out (in the two hanging lockers and the propane locker with stickers letting all know they are inside). What does one do if the fire is right where the boat’s three extinguishers are? I hope they have more in other locations.
I also have three fire extinguishers on my boat. They are positioned with accessibility in mind. You don’t want to have to pass through or reach across a fire to get to the extinguisher! So I’ve got one to either side of the aft end of the cabin for engine fires, but I’ve also got one in the forward cabin. I do not want to wake up and find that I am trapped in there by a fire in the main cabin. That one is an ABC which also combats wood fires. One of the aft ones is an ABC and the other will be replaced by an ABC when it expires.
I found this on the net
