Nonsuch 22

Hi Don,
You have to join the INA to gain access to many of the documents on the site. Non members can access the article “Advice for Potential Buyers” but the other new articles are only available to members.

Thanks I joined today. You have built an amazing support system. Lots to read and worth the price of admission.

Donald: it’s always appreciated and helpful it, after each post, you sign off with your name, what you have and where it is. Mine is an example -

Hi Donald,

When I bought my first Nonsuch in 2010, I quickly came to the realization that the most valuable thing was not the boat ( fantastic tho’ it is) but the wonderfully supportive and helpful Nonsuch community. We all know that boats are not an investment. But I assure you that the INA dues represent one of the best investments you can make. The ROI is off the charts!

Welcome to the Nonsuch family!

I was able to join INA as a non boat owner and as of yesterday I am now a boat owning member. I was able to buy Nonsuch 22 hull #16, named “Cheers”. The boats previous owners due to work and health considerations, and the logistics of living in Utah and the boat being in Puget Sound were unable to be with the boat as much as they would have liked, and they allowed me to begin my Nonsuch stewardship.
The boat is an inboard with a strong Westerbeke 10-2 with less than 500 hrs and all new on the exhaust side. It has other issues from lack of use and its age, but the interior looks great and it’s amazingly dry for our NW climate. I have had 2 very happy days as a boat owner so far and hope for many more.
Thanks, Don

Don,
Congratulations on you new to you boat. I wish you many happy hours making it truly yours.

What???!!!?!?!?!? A BOAT IS NOT AN INVESTMENT? My wife is going to hit the roof when she hears that.

I actually bought my first boat for racing - a Morgan 27 Quarter Ton, that was barrels of fun, a NE PHRF champ with 9 sails; actually sold it for modest profit. Then my Wylie 34, a stripped out ultralight that fell apart after a decade or hard work.

But I’ve settled on my Nonsuch because, well, you can’t get more space and sailing ability in anything else. My racer pals roll their eyes when I show them hot/cold running water, stove with oven, a sail that drops into lazyjacks without having to go on deck, and electric winch (Electric Winch?!?!?!!). Then they see how she cruises in total comfort - an easy motion, good turn of speed, comfy interior. They’re gradually coming to the realization that sailing does not have to be so painful. Of course, all sailors have to think hard about how they want to sail as they advance into their 70’s. Having sailed a twitchy Beneteau 47 ten days offshore from St. Thomas to Newport in in May, it seemed like too much work.

For me, a Nonsuch just makes dit all much easier.

Don,

My boat had the same engine, but it was ruined so I had to replace it. I have the Westerbeke 10 two operator’s Manuel and if would would like it I could mail it to you.

.

Also, I have a few never used impeller kits, as well as the factory spray paint can, still in bubble wrap.
I might have to charge you a few bucks for the latter stuff.

I enjoy my N22 an awful lot, and if your a true sailor, so well you.

Merry Christmas!

Dave,
I would like to get all the above so send me how you would like to make the deal and what you need.
Thanks, Don

I will take a picture of the items and send it to you within a few days so you can get a better idea.

Don,
I can’t imagine having the where- with- all to understand and use this googlysplidge. Having tried and failed to send just you the picture, here it is. The manual is free. It has some notes written in sharpie on the inside jacket, otherwise it’s OK. The engine plate is free also, as it has data already stamped onto it. It could be removed and replaced I guess. All the rest, I might take five bucks each for, plus shipping. I do not know why there are two different size impellers.
I have been told that “Westerbeke no longer does business in California” by a few experts, for whatever that is worth.

Happy 2023 to all.

Hi Bob,
I’m just picking up a lease back in Ventura Harbor for my southern addr.
It would be fun to add a 2nd Nonsuch to the quiver. I’m 60’ from the slips.
It’s hard to cross reference the membership lists by local and fleet for the SW.
Do you know of any 22’s in California?
Cheers,

Mike,

If you log onto Nonsuch.org, use the MEMBERS tab to go to the DIRECTORY page, from there use “Advanced Search” and put in California, you can see a list of the 28(!) California members of the INA. The “(!)” is because the last time I looked, maybe six months ago, there were only 20. You can further refine on model, although you have to search for N22 Inboard and N22 Outboard separately

Scanning that list, it looks like there are three N22 owners in the state, two well north in the Bay Area, and one somewhat south of Ventura near Long Beach.

There’s one Nonsuch 26 in Santa Barbara. That’s the closest in terms of model size and physical distance.

The Advanced Search feature isn’t well-known, but is available to all INA members logged on to the website.
